Providers can change or end their offers without notice, and they do not review our pages before we publish.

Facet is a flat-fee financial planning firm, registered with the SEC since 2016,2 that pairs members with Certified Financial Planners (CFPs) by video and phone. Its fee doesn't grow with your balance. This review covers Facet's three tiers, the break-even vs a 1% fee, what it costs to leave, and the alternatives.
Who is Facet for?
Facet is for two kinds of saver, and both want a written plan more than a stock picker. The fee is the same at $300,000 or $3 million.
People who want one CFP plan for retirement, taxes, and insurance
People who want one plan for their whole financial life are Facet's main audience. Every plan covers retirement, savings and debt, investments, tax-savings strategies, insurance, and education planning. Facet also gives recommendations for 401(k), 403(b), 457, TSP, 529, and HSA accounts it can't manage, which you carry out yourself.
Employees paid partly in company stock
Employees paid partly in company stock get equity planning on Plus and Complete, covering stock options and RSUs: valuation, vesting, when to buy or sell, and taxes. Core doesn't include it.
Facet pros and cons
Facet's pros come from the flat fee and the CFP-led plan, and its cons from the one-year commitment and the limited access on lower tiers.
Facet pros
- A flat annual fee that doesn't rise with your balance, with investment management included at no extra charge
- Every planner is a CFP, and Facet acts as a fiduciary
- Tax filing by a CPA or Enrolled Agent included on Plus and Complete
- Equity compensation planning on Plus and Complete
Facet cons
- Memberships are annual and non-refundable, and they renew automatically
- Core includes one planning meeting a year after year 1, and only Complete gets a single dedicated planner
- Meetings are virtual, and Facet lists no in-person option
- The fee is a large share of a small balance: $2,600 is 2.6% of $100,000
- Direct indexing adds up to 0.15% a year, and you'll pay $10 a month per account if you leave assets behind after cancelling
How much does Facet cost?
Facet costs a flat $2,600, $5,500, or $8,700 a year at list price, and the plans differ in planner access, tax filing, and direct indexing.
Facet's three plans
Facet's three plans are Core, Plus, and Complete, as listed on its pricing page in October 2026.
| Core | Plus | Complete | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual fee (list) | $2,600 | $5,500 | $8,700 |
| Who you work with | Facet's CFP professionals | A dedicated CFP team | A dedicated CFP professional |
| Planning meetings | 3 in year 1, then 1 a year | 3 in year 1, then 2 a year | 4 a year |
| Tax filing | No | Yes | Yes |
| Equity compensation planning | No | Yes | Yes |
| Direct indexing | No | No | Yes |
| Alternative income funds | No | Yes | Yes |
Core members meet with Facet's pool of CFPs, and only Complete lists a single dedicated planner. Every plan includes unlimited messaging with planners.
Paying quarterly adds a $300 enrollment fee. Facet's Form ADV says members on the same plan can pay different amounts because of legacy pricing, promotions, and "subjective pricing discretion," so get your quote in writing.
If Facet manages your investments, the fee switches to an automatic debit from that account unless you opt out, and Facet sells holdings if cash runs short.
Estate planning is an add-on through Wealth.com: $1,200 the first year, then $100 a year, for a will, revocable trust, powers of attorney, a healthcare directive, and a 30-minute attorney consult. Facet's ADV says it charges more for third-party services like this than the provider charges Facet.
Tax filing on Plus and Complete
Tax filing on Plus and Complete covers one tax year per membership period, prepared by an independent CPA or Enrolled Agent through Facet's partner Taxfyle, with audit representation and amended returns included. The pricing page says filing covers federal and state returns but doesn't say how many states or K-1s. Ask before you rely on it for a multi-state return.
Complete adds a fuller tax analysis covering credits and deductions, a withdrawal strategy, and safe harbor withholding and estimated payments.
The extra fee on some investment portfolios
The extra fee on some investment portfolios is an Orion Portfolio Solutions fee of up to 0.15% a year on direct indexing, which Complete adds and Facet recommends only for taxable accounts of $200,000 or more. Direct indexing means holding an index's individual stocks instead of a fund.
Other managed accounts use ETF portfolios at no added fee, with tax-loss harvesting on taxable accounts. Fund expense ratios and custodian fees sit outside the membership.
Is Facet cheaper than a 1% advisory fee?
Facet is cheaper than a 1% advisory fee once your managed balance passes $260,000 on Core, $550,000 on Plus, or $870,000 on Complete.3 If a Complete member put the whole balance in direct indexing at the full 0.15%, Complete's break-even would move to about $1,024,000.
| Managed balance | 1% advisor | Core | Plus | Complete | Complete with direct indexing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $100,000 | $1,000 | $2,600 | $5,500 | $8,700 | Not offered below $200,000 |
| $250,000 | $2,500 | $2,600 | $5,500 | $8,700 | $9,075 |
| $500,000 | $5,000 | $2,600 | $5,500 | $8,700 | $9,450 |
| $1,000,000 | $10,000 | $2,600 | $5,500 | $8,700 | $10,200 |
| $2,000,000 | $20,000 | $2,600 | $5,500 | $8,700 | $11,700 |
The table uses list prices for one year paid annually, applies 0.15% to the whole balance in the last column, and leaves out fund expense ratios.
Facet's ADV says its fixed fee can exceed the industry-standard 2% asset-based fee and that similar services "could be available from other advisers at lower fees." Core costs more than 2% of assets below $130,000, Plus below $275,000, and Complete below $435,000.
The fee also buys planning and, on Plus and Complete, tax filing, so add what you pay a tax preparer to the 1% column before you compare. For portfolio management alone, see the best robo-advisors.
How much does it cost to leave Facet?
How much it costs to leave Facet depends on timing, because you owe the full term once you sign and the agreement renews automatically.4 Paying quarterly doesn't change what you owe, and annual payments are non-refundable.
Facet gives at least two weeks' notice of the renewal date, and you can cancel for the next term in writing or through the member dashboard. Put the renewal date in your calendar the day you join.
Facet must give 30 days' notice of a fee increase, which applies unless you opt out. Members who joined on a promotion renew at the discounted rate.
You have 30 days after the membership ends to move your managed accounts, and after that Facet charges $10 a month per account and can sell shares to pay it. Apex also charges $75 for each outgoing transfer.5 Alternative income funds have quarterly withdrawal limits, and Facet starts selling them if they aren't moved within 30 days.
Disputes go to binding arbitration under Maryland law.
Is Facet worth it in 2026?
Facet is worth it when your balance and tax situation make a flat fee pay off. NerdWallet rates Facet 4.7 out of 5, and Trustpilot shows 4.8 out of 5 from more than 1,500 reviews.
Those ratings describe the planners. The terms are a separate question: the membership is non-refundable, renews itself, and can rise unless you opt out.
A flat fee rewards a larger balance and a more complicated financial life, and it weighs most on small accounts, as Facet's own ADV acknowledges.
Facet fits if your managed balance is past your tier's break-even, or you'd otherwise pay for planning and tax filing separately. It's a weaker fit if you want frequent meetings on Core, a single named planner below Complete, or a way out within the year.
Is Plus worth it over Core?
Plus is worth it over Core if you'd otherwise pay a tax preparer and want planning around stock options or RSUs. It costs $2,900 more a year and adds tax filing, equity compensation planning, a dedicated CFP team, a second yearly meeting, and evening hours.
Is Complete worth it over Plus?
Complete is worth it over Plus mainly if you have a large taxable account. It costs $3,200 more and adds one dedicated planner, four meetings a year, a fuller tax analysis, and direct indexing, which Facet recommends only from $200,000.
Facet vs alternatives
Facet vs alternatives comes down to how each firm charges: the same flat fee every year, a flat fee that drops after the first year, or a percentage of assets.
| Facet | Range | Domain Money | Empower | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How it charges | Flat annual fee | Flat annual fee | Flat fee, lower after year one | Percentage of assets |
| Price | $2,600 to $8,700 a year | $3,950 to $12,500 a year | $3,900 to $9,000 in year one, $2,900 to $8,000 after | 0.89% under $1 million |
| Minimum | None to join, $500 to invest | None stated | None | $100,000 for advisory |
| Human advisors | CFP pool, team, or one planner by plan | Team | One dedicated CFP | Team, dedicated advisor from $250,000 |
| Tax filing included | Plus and Complete | Titanium | Strategic and Comprehensive | No |
Figures come from each firm's own pages, read in October 2026, except Empower's, which come from Tweed's Empower review.
Facet vs Range
Facet vs Range compares two flat-fee firms. Range starts at $3,950 and adds CPAs from its middle plan, and Facet starts at $2,600 and includes tax filing from Plus.
Facet vs Domain Money
Facet vs Domain Money is a choice between a steady fee and one that drops after year one. Domain Money assigns one dedicated CFP on every plan, and Facet does so only on Complete. Both use Taxfyle for tax filing.
Facet vs Empower
Facet vs Empower is flat fee vs percentage. Empower charges 0.89% under $1 million, so on $500,000 you'd pay about $4,450 a year vs $2,600 for Facet Core or $5,500 for Plus, and Empower's free dashboard tracks your accounts at no cost. Our Empower review covers its tiers, and our Mezzi review covers an app-only adviser at $399 a year.
Before you sign, work out what 1% would cost on your managed balance and compare it with the Facet tier you'd need, remembering the membership runs a full year. Then project the balance you'll have in five or ten years with the Tweed Retirement Calculator, since a flat fee shrinks as a share of a growing account.
Frequently asked questions about Facet
Is Facet legit?
Yes, Facet is legit. It has been registered with the SEC since 2016 and managed about $8.7 billion on a discretionary basis as of September 30, 2026. Managed accounts generally sit at Apex Clearing, a SIPC member, and SIPC protection applies if a broker fails, with no cover for market losses.
Is Facet Wealth a fiduciary?
Yes, Facet Wealth is a fiduciary for its advice, because it is an SEC-registered investment adviser and its Form ADV says all of its planners are CFPs who act as fiduciaries. That means its advice must put your interests first. Registration doesn't guarantee skill, and Facet doesn't give legal advice.
Is Facet better than Fidelity?
Facet and Fidelity sell different things, so one isn't better than the other. Facet sells a flat-fee planning membership, and Fidelity is a brokerage where you invest on your own, which Facet's Form ADV says it uses as custodian for some members' accounts. Our Fidelity IRA review covers Fidelity's accounts.
Has Facet Wealth been sued?
Facet Wealth's Form ADV lists one disciplinary matter: a November 2023 settlement with Massachusetts over a late administrative filing for one representative. Searches for a Facet lawsuit also return Facet Investment Management, a UK firm placed into administration in 2024. That is a different company with no link to Facet.
How much do you need to invest with Facet?
You don't need any money invested to join Facet, because it has no minimum for planning. To have Facet manage an investment account, its Form ADV requires a $500 initial purchase, and the high-yield cash account has no minimum. Facet recommends direct indexing only for taxable accounts of $200,000 or more.
What do Facet reviews on Reddit say?
Facet reviews on Reddit come mostly from older threads. The top r/FinancialPlanning thread is two years old, and a 2024 thread titled "Facet wealth is not as shiny as you see in Ads" is critical. A newer r/personalfinance thread asks whether anyone has tried both Facet and Range, so check each post's date.
