Our evaluation is independent all the same: every fee, rate, and rule on this page comes from the provider's own terms, observed on the date shown under the headline, and our verdict would read the same either way. Providers can change or end their offers without notice, and they do not review our pages before we publish.

Key takeaways

  • IRAs held $19.9 trillion in assets at the end of the second quarter of 2026, up 9.2% from the first quarter.1
  • A Webull IRA charges $0 commission on US-listed stocks, ETFs, and options and $75 to transfer stock out, and its top match rate depends on Webull Premium, which costs $40 a year.
  • A Webull IRA is best for a saver contributing $1,600 or more a year who will pay for Premium, while a Robinhood IRA is best for a saver who wants the holding rules in writing before the first deposit.
In this article

The Webull IRA is worth it if you contribute at least $1,600 a year, because at $1,600 the 3.5% match with Webull Premium covers the $40 membership.2 Webull's 3.5% beats Robinhood's 3% with Gold and the free 1% at SoFi and Public, though Public's Reserve plan pays 4% for $20 a month. Webull's IRA page leaves out two things: how long matched money has to stay, and what happens if it leaves early. This review covers the match, Premium's break-even, fees and features, the cost to leave, and the closest alternatives.

This review covers the Webull IRA only. The Webull review covers the whole platform, and the best Roth IRA accounts roundup compares the IRA match at other providers.

Who is the Webull IRA for?

The Webull IRA is for a self-directed saver who contributes every year and wants the largest match per dollar of membership, not for someone who needs every holding rule published on the sign-up page.

Savers contributing $1,600 or more a year

Premium's 3.5% match covers its own cost at $1,600 a year of contributions. Above $1,600, the extra match is a net gain over the membership fee. If you're still deciding on the account type, start with what a Roth IRA is.

Savers rolling over an old 401(k)

Webull offers a Rollover IRA and runs 401(k) rollovers through Capitalize, a rollover service. For a limited time, Premium members earn a 1% match on IRA transfers and rollovers.

Savers who want a cheaper paid tier than Robinhood Gold

Premium costs $40 a year, and Robinhood Gold costs $60. Both raise the IRA match. Webull Premium raises it more, to 3.5% vs Robinhood Gold's 3%.

Webull IRA pros and cons

Webull IRA pros

  • 3.5% match on contributions with Premium
  • 1% on qualifying deposits with no subscription
  • Premium at $40 a year, $20 less than Robinhood Gold
  • Traditional, Roth, and Rollover IRAs
  • $75 to transfer stock out, $25 less than Robinhood

Webull IRA cons

  • Webull's IRA page does not state a holding period or clawback for matched money
  • The transfer and rollover match needs Premium and is a limited-time offer
  • The 3.5% rate applies only while you're a Premium member
  • Margin and cash rates weren't confirmed on Webull's pages, and certain index options cost $0.50 per contract

If the unstated holding period is the dealbreaker, Robinhood writes down a 5-year hold and pays 1% on transfers without a paid plan (see our Robinhood review).

How does the Webull IRA match work?

The Webull IRA match is money Webull adds to your IRA as a percentage of what you put in, and the rate depends on whether you pay for Premium. Contributions and transfers follow different rules.

3.5% on contributions with Premium, 1% without

Premium more than triples the contribution match. The table shows what each rate pays on a maxed 2026 contribution.3Webull's page describes the non-member rate as 1% on qualifying deposits, so check which deposits qualify before you count on the 1%.

$7,500, under 50$75$262.50
$8,600, 50 and older$86$301

The match on a Webull Roth IRA

A Webull Roth IRA earns the same match as far as Webull's IRA page shows, since the page lists Roth IRAs and states the 3.5% on IRA contributions with Premium. Any exclusion would appear in Webull's match terms.

1% on transfers and rollovers, with Premium, for now

IRA transfers and 401(k) rollovers earn a 1% match for Premium members, and Webull describes this as a limited-time offer. Move $50,000 in and you'll receive $500 before Premium's cost. Robinhood, by contrast, pays 1% on transfers and rollovers whether or not you have Gold.

What Webull's IRA page doesn't say

Webull's IRA page does not state how long matched money has to stay, or whether Webull takes the match back if you withdraw or transfer early. Robinhood, SoFi, and Public each spell out a 5-year hold. Webull not stating a rule doesn't mean there is no rule. Read Webull's match terms before your first deposit, not after your first transfer request.

Webull IRA fees and features

A Webull IRA's published costs are an optional $40 membership, a $75 outgoing stock transfer, and two pass-through regulatory fees.4The table lists what Tweed recorded on October 6, 2026.

Account types

Webull offers three IRAs: Traditional, Roth, and Rollover. A Rollover IRA is a traditional IRA that holds money from an old workplace plan. A rollover doesn't count toward your annual limit. SEP and SIMPLE IRAs weren't listed on the page Tweed checked.

Trading costs inside the IRA

Webull's pricing page lists pass-through SEC and Consolidated Audit Trail fees, which are regulatory charges passed on to you, not Webull's own commission. Commissions are $0 on US-listed stocks, ETFs, and options, and certain index options cost $0.50 per contract. Margin rates and the cash sweep rate weren't confirmed for this review, so neither is quoted.

What does it cost to leave a Webull IRA?

Leaving a Webull IRA costs $75 to transfer stock out, plus whatever Webull's match terms say about matched money that leaves early. Look up that second cost in Webull's match terms, because the IRA page doesn't state it.

Is the Webull IRA worth it?

Yes, the Webull IRA is worth it for a saver who contributes $1,600 or more a year, keeps Premium, and leaves the match in place. It's a weaker deal for anyone who might move the account before reading the match terms.

Webull pays the match to gather retirement assets. Every broker that pays a match attaches rules for keeping it. Webull's rate is higher than Robinhood's and the free 1% at SoFi and Public, and only Public Reserve's 4% is higher. So check Webull's unpublished holding terms before you open the account, not after.

Is Webull Premium worth it for an IRA?

Webull Premium pays for itself on the IRA alone once you contribute $1,600 a year. Below $1,600, the free 1% match leaves you better off.

Webull Premium vs Robinhood Gold for an IRA

Webull Premium nets more than Robinhood Gold at every contribution level in this table, because it pays a higher rate for a lower fee. The gap at a maxed $7,500 contribution is $57.50 a year. Robinhood Gold breaks even at $3,000, nearly twice Webull's $1,600.5Public Reserve, the only higher rate, trails both at these levels because of its $240 yearly fee.

Webull IRA vs Robinhood

Webull wins on the contribution match, while Robinhood wins on transfers and terms. Robinhood's 1% transfer match needs no Gold, and its holding rules are written down. The Robinhood IRA review covers both rules, and the Robinhood vs Webull comparison prices the two brokers for three kinds of saver.

Webull IRA vs SoFi and Public

SoFi and Public both pay 1% on contributions with no subscription, so the free tiers tie. Premium separates Webull, at a sixth of the cost of Public's 4% Reserve plan. SoFi adds an uncapped 1% on 401(k) rollovers through its own flow, covered in the SoFi IRA review. The Public review covers Public's IRA alongside its bonds and Treasuries.

Run the match through your own plan

A maxed Webull IRA earns $262.50 a year with Premium. That is real money, but it is well below your own contributions. Run the Tweed retirement calculator with and without the match to see what it adds by retirement. The Webull review covers the account outside the IRA, and the best Roth IRA accounts list compares Webull's rivals on more than the match.

Frequently asked questions about the Webull IRA

What happens to my IRA if Webull goes under?

If Webull failed, SIPC coverage would protect up to $500,000 per customer, including $250,000 in cash, provided Webull is a SIPC member. Tweed didn't verify that membership for this review, so check SIPC's member list and FINRA BrokerCheck. SIPC never covers market losses or a match a broker takes back under its own terms.

Is a Webull IRA FDIC insured?

No, the stocks and ETFs in a Webull IRA aren't FDIC insured, because they're securities, not bank deposits. FDIC coverage can apply to uninvested cash if a broker sweeps it to program banks, but Webull's cash program wasn't checked for this review. Read Webull's cash terms before treating IRA cash as insured.

Is Webull better than Vanguard?

Webull is better than Vanguard for an IRA saver who wants a match, because Vanguard's IRA page shows none. Vanguard is better for a fund investor: its Target Retirement Funds open at $1,000, and it offers spousal IRAs, which Webull's IRA page doesn't list. Most Vanguard index funds need $3,000 to start, though.

Can I have a Webull Roth IRA and a 401(k)?

Yes, you can have a Webull Roth IRA and a 401(k) at the same time, because the two have separate contribution limits. Roth eligibility depends on your income, not on whether a workplace plan covers you. Many savers use the 401(k) to collect an employer match and the Roth for what they can add on top.

Can I open a Webull Roth IRA if I earn too much?

No, you can't contribute directly to a Webull Roth IRA once your income passes the IRS phase-out. In 2026, single filers phase out between $153,000 and $168,000. Joint filers phase out between $242,000 and $252,000. Above those ranges, the usual route is a backdoor Roth: a nondeductible traditional IRA contribution that you later convert to a Roth.

Why can't I withdraw from my Webull Roth IRA?

A withdrawal from a Webull Roth IRA usually waits on settlement, because cash from a sale has to settle before it can leave. IRS rules then decide the tax. Contributions can come out at any time, but earnings taken before 59½ and before the account is five years old can be taxed and penalized.

How much should I put in my Roth IRA each month?

To max out a Roth IRA in 2026, put in $625 a month, which reaches the $7,500 limit in twelve deposits. Savers 50 or older can add the catch-up on top. Smaller amounts work too, because the limit is a ceiling, not a target. The right amount depends on your budget and other retirement savings.
