Tweed is committed to editorial integritySome links on this page are referral or affiliate links, which means Tweed is paid when you open an account or sign up through them. That payment never changes what we write.

Payment never influences our evaluations: every fee, rate, and rule on this page comes from the provider's own terms, observed on the date shown under the headline, and our verdict would read the same without the link. Providers can change or end their offers without notice, and they do not review our pages before we publish.

Tweed is paid when you open an account through a referral link on this page, including Robinhood's, Public's, and SoFi's.

Key takeaways

  • The 2026 IRA contribution limit is $7,500, or $8,600 at age 50 and older, and a broker's match doesn't count toward it.1
  • When choosing an IRA match, compare three things: the match rate, what any subscription costs a year, and how long you must keep both the money and the subscription.
  • The best IRA match offers for 2026 are Webull Premium at 3.5% ($222.50 net on $7,500) and Robinhood Gold at 3% ($175 net), because they pay the most after fees. Public's free 1% pays $75 with no subscription.
In this article

The best IRA match is Webull Premium's 3.5%, worth $222.50 on a full $7,500 contribution after its $40 yearly fee. Robinhood Gold comes second at $175, and a free 1% match pays $75. This guide ranks five brokers by what you keep after fees and sets out the holds that come with each match.

The best IRA match offers reviewed

Each IRA match below gets the same five facts, so you can see the rate, the cost, and the strings in one place.

1. Best match after fees: Webull Premium

Ideal for

You max out a self-directed IRA every year and don't mind paying $40 for the higher rate.

Our take

Webull Premium matches 3.5% of your IRA contributions, which is $262.50 on $7,500 and $222.50 once you subtract the $40 fee.2 You must keep Premium a full year and the money five years. Without Premium, Webull pays 1%, and Webull calls both its standard match and the Premium transfer match limited-time offers.

2. Best for transfers and rollovers: Robinhood

Ideal for

You're moving an old IRA or 401(k) and want a match on the transfer as well as on new contributions.

Our take

Robinhood pays 3% on contributions with Gold and 1% without, plus 1% on every IRA transfer and 401(k) rollover with no cap.3 A $100,000 rollover earns $1,000, more than any contribution match here pays in a year. The 2% Gold transfer bonus ran January 8, 2026 to April 30, 2026 and is over.

3. Best for a first-year boost: Acorns

Ideal for

You already pay for Acorns Gold for its other features and want an IRA in the same app.

Our take

Acorns matches 3% of new contributions in your first year with Gold at $12 a month, so $81 net on $7,500. After that year the match stops. Silver's 1% match costs more than it pays at $8 a month.

4. Best 1% match with no subscription: Public

Ideal for

You want a match without a subscription, on both new contributions and money you move in.

Our take

Public matches 1% of contributions up to the IRS limit and 1% of IRA transfers and rollovers, the transfer match paid monthly over 60 months. Public Reserve raises the contribution match to 4% for $20 a month.4 That's $300 on $7,500, minus $240 a year, so $60: less than the free $75 unless you'd use Reserve's cash rate and other matches anyway.

5. Best for a robo-advisor IRA: SoFi

Ideal for

You want a managed IRA that someone else invests, with a match on what you put in.

Our take

SoFi matches 1% of contributions to self-directed and robo IRAs, the only robo IRA match on this list, paid within 5 business days.5 The contribution has to arrive by ACH or instant transfer from SoFi Bank, and the rollover match covers only 401(k), 403(b), and 457(b) rollovers sent by check. An IRA moved over by ACAT transfer earns nothing.

Tweed's SoFi link opens a SoFi Invest account; the IRA match is SoFi's own offer and needs no link. Our SoFi IRA review covers the fees.

How does an IRA match work?

An IRA match works like a deposit bonus: the broker adds a percentage of what you contribute or move in, and books it as earnings in the IRA, not as your contribution. That's why it doesn't use up any of your $7,500 limit. Most brokers pay it within days of the deposit settling, while Public Reserve spreads its match over 12 months.

The catch is the hold. It usually runs five years, and only self-directed IRAs qualify at Robinhood and Webull. If you convert a traditional IRA to a Roth, the match converts with it and is taxed as income, so run the numbers in the Tweed Roth conversion calculator first.

Is a paid IRA match worth the subscription?

A paid IRA match is worth the subscription only when the extra match beats the fee, which depends on how much you contribute. Webull Premium and Robinhood Gold clear their fees at the full limit. Public Reserve doesn't, and Acorns Silver loses money.

Match tierMatch rateYearly costNet under 50 ($7,500)Net at 50+ ($8,600)
Webull Premium3.5%$40$222.50$261.00
Robinhood Gold3%$50$175$208
Acorns Gold, first year3%$144$81$114
Public Reserve4%$240$60$104
Public, SoFi, or Robinhood with no subscription1%$0$75$86
Acorns Silver, first year1%$96-$21-$10

Contribute less and the fee eats more of the match. At Robinhood, Gold beats the free match once you contribute more than $2,501 a year.

What it costs to leave an IRA match early

Leaving an IRA match early costs you the match on whatever you take out, and moving the whole IRA usually costs all of it. Robinhood charges back the match on money removed within five years plus $100 for an outgoing transfer. SoFi takes the whole match on an ACAT transfer out.

The subscriptions have their own clock. Cancel Robinhood Gold, Webull Premium, or Public Reserve within a year and the broker takes back the extra over its standard 1%. Market losses alone don't trigger a fee at any of them; a withdrawal does.

Methodology for ranking the best IRA match offers

We ranked each broker by what its best IRA match pays on a full $7,500 contribution after a year of any subscription it needs, with the transfer match breaking ties. Every rate, price, and hold was read on the broker's own page on October 26, 2026. Tweed is paid when you open some of these accounts through its links, and that doesn't change the order: Webull, which pays Tweed nothing, ranks first.

If you're still choosing where to open the IRA, compare fees and funds in the best IRA accounts and the best Roth IRA accounts, and see the best 401(k) rollover options for an old plan. Above the income limit, the backdoor Roth is the way in.

To compare an IRA transfer match with the cash bonuses other brokers pay, run the Tweed brokerage account bonus calculator. The best brokerage bonuses list ranks those cash offers.

Frequently asked questions about IRA matches

Does Schwab or Fidelity offer an IRA match?

No, neither Schwab nor Fidelity listed an IRA match when Tweed last read their IRA and pricing pages in October 2026, so every match here comes from an app-based broker. Schwab's referral offer pays cash on new money instead, a one-time bonus with its own terms. A low-cost IRA at either firm can still beat a 1% match over decades.

Can you get an IRA match on a backdoor Roth?

Yes, a nondeductible traditional IRA contribution earns the match like any other, but the match is counted as earnings. So when you convert to a Roth, the match is taxable income in the conversion. You keep most of it, though a small tax bill comes with it, and the 5-year hold still applies to the matched money.

Is an IRA match the same as a 401(k) match?

No, an IRA match is a broker's promotion, not an employer benefit. A 401(k) match is usually a share of your pay that your employer adds, often several percent of salary. An IRA match is 1% to 4% of what you contribute, capped by the IRA limit, and the broker can take it back if you leave within five years.
